Description: The author notes that, as of 1977, the “actuarial profession is small, but it is also divided. There are several actuarial organizations in North America, and as a result different groups are addressing limited energy to the same problems.” The article then discusses the Society of Actuaries’ recent proposal for reorganization of the profession, and the committee formed to proceed with reorganization. It is noted that the SOA so far is the only organization endorsing the proposal, but other organizations have expressed a willingness to listen.

Description: SOA surveys public attitudes about post-retirement risk and its management every two years. This is 7th survey. Article provides highlights of 2013 survey, comments on longer term findings, and information about how to use results. Results are useful for those managing pension plans, developing products, helping individuals and also for policymakers. This issues are particularly important in situations where there are no defined benefit plans.
